Written by People Keeping Well
Are you looking for an activity or some support to help you keep healthy and well? Did you know help is at hand in your local community?
We are a network of local organisations which can help you to:
- get fit and active through exercise sessions and health walks
- increase your confidence and skills by joining courses such as cooking, art and gardening
- eat healthily and exercise more with advice from a one-to-one Health Trainer
- get connected with people in your local area
- reduce feelings of loneliness by joining local groups and social cafes
- develop ways of coping with mild depression, diabetes, chronic pain and dementia by taking part in self-help groups
- receive information and advice about housing, debt, employment or other similar issues
- find rewarding volunteering opportunities
Some of these services may be different during the coronavirus pandemic. For example some groups are taking place online, or more support may be offered via the telephone. But you can still contact us to get the help you need. We’re your ‘People Keeping Well in their Community’ network. Put your postcode into the map below and then click on the highlighted dot to find details of your local ‘People Keeping Well’ organisation:
You can refer yourself or someone you know such as a friend or family member (with their permission). You can also make a referral if you are a GP, a nurse or other professional.
If there isn’t a ‘People Keeping Well’ organisation in your area yet, contact whichever organisation is convenient for you, or contact a Community Support Worker.

More information
‘People Keeping Well’ is sometimes known as Social Prescribing. It’s all about connecting you to a range of local services to improve general health and wellbeing. In Sheffield, Social Prescribing is delivered through our ‘People Keeping Well’ network of community organisations which are funded through Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group.
Each partnership is led by a local voluntary sector organisation which works with a wide range of people who live or work in that community. Each partnership is different, depending on local needs, but might include other voluntary groups, libraries, local forums, GPs, tenants and residents associations, faith groups, food banks, local Councillors and neighbourhood Police Officers.
