Sheffield Multiple Disadvantage Community of Practice meeting: Domestic Abuse
The first of our Multiple Disadvantage Community of Practice quarterly meetings in 2024 will be held on Thursday 22nd February at 9.30am. The Community of Practice is for anyone working with people with multiple and complex needs across any sector in Sheffield i.e. front line workers, volunteers, managers and commissioners. It is a space to discuss common issues, share best practice, collaborate on systems change and learn together.

The topic for the session will be Domestic Abuse.
In this session we will hear from people with lived experience of DA and their views on the systems that hindered or helped them to escape and live safe from abuse. We will explore the links between DA and other disadvantages and consider the ways that we can effectively support people experiencing DA.

The topic for the session will be Neurodiversity
In this session on neurodiversity we will explore what we mean by the term neurodiverse, take a brief look at different types of neurodiversity, outline what the common signs and symptoms might be, and consider ways of adapting working practices to meet the needs of those who are neurodivergent. There will be a presentation, break out rooms for discussion and networking, and a final Q&A session.

In the session participants will hear from people with lived experience of addiction and the work of the Sheffield Recovery Forum 2023 Recovery Month | Sheffield Drugs and Alcohol (sheffielddact.org.uk) and learn about what addiction related recovery services/support is available in the city.
We also want to use the session for you to tell us where you think the gaps are and explore possible opportunities for partnership working and to support the Recovery Forum’s ambition for Sheffield to become an Inclusive City WANT TO START BUILDING? | Inclusivecities.

This Community of Practice will focus on problematic alcohol use and multiple disadvantage and will include insights from individuals with lived experience, specialists working in this area and examples of best practice in the city. We will discuss service provision and provide a reflective space to discuss the current challenges in this area.
