Opportunity Sheffield’s Sector Routeways: Manufacturing & Warehousing course starts on Monday 13 January, with a registration session a week before.

Time: 9:30am – 4pm

Venue: Magna Science Centre, Magna Way, Templeborough, Rotherham, S60 1FD

Course length: Initial 10 days of training

This programme will help participants to gain an insight into the various roles and opportunities within the sector:

  • From shop floor to support roles
  • From traditional manufacturing to advanced manufacturing and traditional warehousing to modern day logistics
  • Provides you with the basic knowledge, understanding and skills to succeed in an industry role.

The training includes:

  • Getting to know you and confidence building
  • Insights into Manufacturing and Warehousing in the region
  • Team building and problem solving
  • Communication and basic technology in the workplace appropriate to the sector
  • Insights into the Industry through tours and meeting employers/employees
  • Interview and application support
  • Health & Safety, risk management, health and wellbeing and manual handling including the opportunity to gain an accredited qualification
  • Understanding business and your role in it
  • Sector-specific knowledge including introducing Lean Manufacturing
  • Work Experience preparation and support

Qualifications participants will gain:

  • Level 1 in health, safety and welfare for workers
  • Level 1 in manual handling

Candidates should meet the person specification below:  

  • Be adaptable, willing and enthusiastic to learn, with a good work attitude
  • Able to work on your own initiative, and able to fit in and work as part of a team
  • Be able to complete tasks within given timescales
  • Good problem solving skills, with the ability to see a job through to completion
  • Be flexible and prepared to work additional hours to support the team, if required
  • Must be punctual, reliable and have a positive, can-do attitude
  • For shop floor and warehousing roles, need to be able to work with your hands and use a variety of tools specific to the industry.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the course, participants need to be aged 16+, live in South Yorkshire, be unemployed, not in full-time education, and have the right to work in the UK. They will need: 

  • Their National Insurance Number
  • ID – Passport, NI letter, Birth Certificate or Biometric Residence Permit
  • Phone login to your Universal Credit account or a recent UC letter
  • If not on benefits, their proof of right to work – residence card/sharecode
