Consultation now open on Sheffield Employment & Skills Strategy’s Action Plan

Over the past eight months, the Sheffield Employment and Skills Advisory Board (SESAB) has been working to develop a new Employment and Skills Strategy for Sheffield and agree the actions through which the strategic missions will be achieved.

Following an initial round of consultation in the Summer, the strategy Vision and Strategic Framework were approved by Sheffield City Council’s Economic Development and Skills Policy Committee in September.

Since then, SESAB members have been working to review, refine and prioritise the long list of potential actions proposed by partners during the summer consultation workshops.

The actions have been grouped into four Action Areas, with a SESAB member organisation designated to lead each one:

  • Support Sheffield’s employers to grow and thrive through effective skills and employment support (led by Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry)
  • Develop effective and accessible skills pathways to good quality employment (led by The Sheffield College)
  • Provide tailored and hyper-local support to address labour market disparities (led by Sheffield City Council working with the VCFSE sector)
  • Work with Sheffield’s anchor institutions, employers and investors to maximise social value (led by Sheffield City Council and the city’s anchor institutions)

We would now like to offer all stakeholders the opportunity to review the proposed actions and provide final comments on the following questions:

  1. Are there any actions which you think should be given greater priority than others?
  2. Is there any existing activity that contributes to achievement of the missions that we should build on?
  3. Are there any gaps in the proposed actions which would prevent us from achieving the agreed missions?

The Action Area Plans can be found on the Consultation Activity page of the Sheffield Employment and Skills Strategy website, which also includes background information, the evidence base for the strategy, and the approved vision and missions: Sheffield Employment and Skills Strategy
