Play Games Build Careers starts Monday 12 May 2025

Game Academy’s next Play Games Build Careers online course to boost employability skills starts on Monday 12 May 2025.

This course is designed for 15-18-year-olds who are not in employment or education (or are at risk of it). The course is free to participants and funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.

It will help gamers recognise their skills, understand their value in the workplace, and connect with employers, mentors, and career advisors. They can also gain certificates endorsed by NCFE and Level 1 and 2 Digital Skills qualifications.

Training takes place over two weeks on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The course is fully remote, delivered via Zoom and Discord, and includes:

  • Talks from industry professionals (gamers in senior positions in the games, tech, marketing and cybersecurity industries)
  • Practical projects set by video game studios
  • Useful employability guidance

Participants aren’t required to play specific games or use particular platforms. They also don’t have to keep their camera on or speak if they’re not comfortable – although tutors do encourage engagement to make the most of the experience.
