The Wise Group HEAT service helps people with energy hardship

The Wise Group has launched a fully funded HEAT service, which can provide 1:1 energy advice, mentoring and advocacy for households struggling with energy costs, fuel debt, or emergencies.

From their employability work, they know that when someone is facing a heat vs eat decision, or is living in a cold home, it becomes incredibly hard to focus on job search, sustain routines, or even manage the basics like washing and drying clothes for an interview.

The Wise Group’s data tells us how interconnected these needs are. People presenting with energy-related hardship are:

  • 1.5x more likely to have a Financial Support need
  • 1.5x more likely to have a Stability need
  • 1.5x more likely to have a Physical Health need

That combination can keep people stuck — even when they’re motivated to move towards work.

What HEAT can support with:

  • Advocacy with energy suppliers (including negotiating fuel debt)
  • Support with energy emergencies and preventing disconnection
  • Practical help to stabilise the household situation
  • Advice to optimise energy use and reduce ongoing costs
  • Financial Assistance/Food vouchers
