Referrals being taken for Sheffield Futures’ Summer Jobs Programme

The Summer Jobs Programme, run by Sheffield Futures, provides young people with a fully paid six-week programme including a five-week work experience placement over the summer. The referral deadline is Friday 1 May 2026.

The programe is specifically aimed at vulnerable young people, especially those who would benefit from engagement over the summer and from the support provided throughout the programme by Sheffield Futures youth workers.

Key information

  • The programme aims to contribute to a reduction in youth violence through the engagement of vulnerable young people in a supported work experience placement through the summer. 
  • It is expected that for many young people on the programme, this will be their first experience of work.
  • Young people will receive National Living Wage £12.71 per hour and expected to work a 25 hour week.  
  • Preparation week and Placements 20 July to 31 August
  • Min age 16 on 22 May 2026  (upper age limit = 20 years old on 22 May 2026)
  • Last year placements included Sheffield City Council works department, Sheffield Wednesday FC, Sheffield Games Museum, Sheffield Childrens Hospital, Riverlution, St Winifreds amongst others.
  • Where possible, will try to match people with their preferred choice of industry
  • There are 35 placements. This programme is being run as a Randomised Control Trial, so YP have a 50% chance in getting a placement once successfully registered and will find out if they have secured a placement by 29 May 
  • Young people must have a bank account and the necessary Right to Work documents to complete registration
