DWP: Coronavirus Touchbase special – 19 June 2020

Roundup of recent DWP announcements

Supporting jobseekers and claimants through social media

Jobcentre Plus is supporting jobseekers to prepare for and find work through Twitter. They can find local vacancies and join virtual jobs fairs, skills events and other online events on their local Jobcentre Plus Twitter account.

If you work with jobseekers, please tell them about the Jobcentre Plus Twitter service. They do not need to register for a Twitter account to view the information.

If you would like to get involved with an online event, please send a Direct Message to your local Twitter account.

This service sits alongside the Find a job and job help websites.

Guidance on public transport

Updated travel guidance has been issued for passengers and transport operators. For those who have no alternative to public transport, it is vital they understand the steps they can take to maintain their own safety and that of others and help reduce demand on the transport networks.

Please support the campaign by using the materials available and sharing through your networks and channels.

Additionally, there is also updated guidance on how to wear and make a cloth face covering.

Automatic enrolment COVID-19 employer guidance

The Pensions Regulator has updated guidance on how the changes to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme affect pension contributions, how to calculate contributions for part-time furloughed workers and technical guidance for larger employers and their advisers (e.g. salary sacrifice arrangements). Employers can also find out what to do if they are struggling to pay your pension contributions.

Interim superfunds regime

Following our 2018 consultation, ‘Defined benefit pension scheme consolidation’, The Pensions Regulator has launched an interim regime for Defined Benefit (DB) superfunds.

Minister for Pensions and Financial Inclusion has welcomed the interim regime which has the potential to deliver more secure retirement incomes for workers, while allowing employers to concentrate on running their businesses.
