Some employers have had to make redundancies, leaving work-ready apprentices without an employer. These apprentices will have already gained knowledge, skills and behaviours which could bring incredible value to employers.
By hiring a redundant apprentice, employers could:
- get a quick return on investment, because they will already have relevant skills and experiences
find the right skills they need to strengthen their organisation
- help support an enthusiastic apprentice who has recently lost their job
Pass on our guidance to the employers you work with to make sure they don’t miss out.

Employers can get up to an extra £2,000
Employers could get up to £2,000 with our incentive payments for hiring an apprentice as a new employee between 1 August 2020 to 31 March 2021. This includes redundant apprentices.
Employers can only apply for their incentive payment after they’ve reserved funding for the new apprentice through their apprenticeship service account.
