Shaw Trust has a wide range of employment support services available for adults in Sheffield, including general careers advice, Kickstart preparation for 18-24s, mock interviews for jobseekers and redundancy support for people who lose their job.

Careers Advice

  • CV Development – support to compile an effective CV from scratch or develop and enhance your existing CV.
  • Training Opportunities – information and signposting to training and qualifications which can help you back into work, including information regarding Rapid Response to Redundancy.
  • Interview Preparation and Performance – support to prepare effectively for face to face, telephone or video interviews including interview practice (using Skype or Microsoft Teams virtual platforms).
  • Skills and Interests Assessment – help to identify your existing skills and areas for development and use these to identify new career paths.
  • Understand the local labour market – what employers are recruiting in the area.
  • Job Search Support – provide information on where to look for jobs and how to apply for them.
  • Application Form Support – support you to complete job applications.

Kickstart Preparation

At Shaw Trust, our qualified careers advisers will provide free, impartial advice to everyone preparing for Kickstart Scheme applications and interviews. Appointments are available via virtual workshops using Microsoft Teams or as a 1-1 telephone appointment.

Careers advisers will support customers to career plan and set achievable career goals.

We will provide customers with information and advice on how to:

• Write a CV or improve an existing CV – how to make it stand out!
• Fill in an application form – advice on how to complete an online application form
• Explore your skills and match them to potential careers and job sectors
• Find out more about your skills, transferrable skills, what employers might be looking for
• Prepare for different types of interviews:
o how to answer interview questions confidently and make a good
impression
o how to prepare and succeed in telephone or video interviews

Virtual Mock Interviews

Do you have an interview to prepare for using a virtual platform such as MS Teams? We can help you to prepare effectively for a video interview including:

• A trial run to test your equipment, connection and surroundings

• How to anticipate interview questions

• Techniques to help you structure your answers

• A mock interview to practice your techniques

• Constructive feedback from the adviser to help you enhance your interview performance

Redundancy Support

Support available:

  • Rapid Response to Redundancy Training Opportunities – information and signposting to training and qualifications which can help you back into work, including information regarding Rapid Response to Redundancy. Help to complete an application form to apply for funding via the DWP.
  • CV Development – support you to compile an effective CV from scratch or develop and enhance your existing CV.
  • Skills and Interests Assessment – help to identify your existing skills and areas for development and use these to identify new career paths.
  • Job Search Support – provide information on where to look for jobs and how to apply for them.
  • Application Form Support – support you to complete job applications.
  • Interview Preparation and Performance – support you to prepare effectively for job interviews. Advice on the use of digital platforms for virtual interviews (e.g. Skype interviews).
