Sector Routeways programme overview – Teacake Club Nov 2021

Opportunity Sheffield’s Sector Routeways programme offers industry specific interventions aimed at providing unemployed people, aged 18 and over, with a gateway to employment.

Sector Routeways are short and focused training programmes which have been designed with growth businesses in Sheffield.  Routeways are available in the following sectors:

  • Care
  • Construction
  • Digital
  • Engineering and Manufacturing
  • Fibre Installation

Following the completion of the training programme, participants commence on a two-week work placement with an employer in the sector.

Sector Routeways is looking for job seekers who have the skills, aptitude and motivation to begin work with a growth sector employer.

Sector Routeways: Construction (including Fibre Installation)

When: the programme takes on participants every two weeks.

Where: Construction Design Centre (S2) and Red Tape Studios (S1)

Duration: four weeks – two weeks of training followed by a two-week work placement

Participants will receive a two-week crash course in construction site work, encompassing practical skills, health and safety, site skills, and a CSCS test. Successful participants will be offered a two-week unpaid work placement on site with a view to being supported into a paid construction job or apprenticeship.

Sector Routeways: Engineering & Manufacturing

When: 14 February 2022

Where: Magna (S60)

Duration: four weeks – two weeks of training followed by a two-week work placement

Successful participants gain an insight into the various roles and opportunities within the sector, up to date work experience and employer introductions.

Training will be delivered by The Work-wise Foundation and supported by Made in Sheffield and The Cutlers Company in Hallamshire.

Sector Routeways: Digital – Coding & Software Development

When: 21 February 2022

Where: delivered online (participants require access to a computer and the internet)

Duration: 14 weeks – 12 weeks of training followed by a two-week work placement

The training will equip successful participants with a knowledge and understanding of the personal attributes and programming/technical skills identified, and expected by employers.  As well as up-to-date work experience and employer introductions, successful candidates will be looking to access roles as Junior Software Developers.

Sector Routeways: Care (Adult Social Care)

When: 1st, 2nd and 3rd February 2022

Where: St Mary’s

Duration: three weeks – one week of training followed by a two-week work placement

Successful participants gain an insight into the various roles and opportunities within the Adult Social Care sector, up-to-date work experience and employer introductions.
