BTEC Extended Certificate in Music Industry Skills Study Programme L2
Overview
This is a Full time Study Programme delivered over 2.5 days per week (approx 12.5hrs) between September 2022 and July 2023. The Study Programme includes the core aim and a minimum of 120hrs enrichment is timetabled into the course which will help develop other skills such as communication, creativity, teamwork and leadership.
The programme starts with 2 mandatory units: Exploring Music and Professional Development. This will be followed by an optional unit, either Music Performance OR Music Production. Your final unit will be the Music Project which will be based on your optional choice and bring together the knowledge you have developed over your first 3 units.
Mandatory: Unit 1: Exploring Music – You will explore music creation techniques through practical workshops and activities.
Mandatory: Unit 2: Professional Development – You will explore a range of career opportunities with a view to their own professional development within the music industry
Optional: Unit 4; Music Performance – You will develop your musical skills in rehearsal and performance
Optional: Unit 5: Music Production – You will develop your understanding of how a digital audio workstation (DAW) is used as the central piece of technology for programming, recording and editing a music project
Mandatory: Unit 8: Music Project – This provides you with the opportunity to develop and present music in response to a commercial brief based on your choice in either the Music Performance or Music Production unit.
If you achieve a GCSE G3 in English and/or maths you will continue your GCSE learning to ensure you achieve a minimum G4.
If you achieve a GCSE G2 English and/or maths you can discuss this further with our tutors and decide if you would prefer to work towards and potentially achieve your GCSE G4 or take Functional skills and work towards a Level 2.

Prerequisites
A genuine interest in music performance or music production as a career path.
GCSE English and maths at G2 or working towards L2 in Functional skills English and maths.
FREE to 16-18 years old. Not available to 19yrs+ learners unless there is an EHCP in place.
Enrolment Process
Stage 1. Complete an application on Sheffield Progress or ask in the centre or via email for a RTC application form.
Stage 2. If your application is successful, you will be asked to attend an Interview either online or in person.
Stage 3. If you pass stage 1 and 2 you will be asked to attend a Crash Course at RTC in August 2022. DateTBC.

BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Music Production L3
Overview
This is a Full time Study Programme delivered over 2.5 days per week (approx 12.5hrs) between September 2022 and July 2023. The Study Programme includes the main aim: BTEC Level 3 National Foundation diploma in Music Production plus additional hours of enrichment and ‘experience of work’.
This qualification is for learners who would like to develop their skills and pursue Higher Education or a career in Music Production or similar career path.
You will learn to work independently, improve your research skills, develop your presentation skills and become an active member in your group.
Under the Music Production Skills Development module you will cover the following: Studio recording, Creating musical material through production and Music technology and live events
Modern music technicians and producers need to meet a broad and varied range of requirements. They need to be adaptable with the professional skills and knowledge to carry out work in production, live events and creation contexts.
This module develops the ability to apply knowledge and skills related to key areas of the music industry. A series of short learning projects help learners refine their skills, so they can adapt them independently to vocationally varied situations. The projects help develop technical and musical knowledge in practical contexts and cover the development of individual recording skills as well as the development of key complementary skills for musicians, such as professional skills and critical reflection.
The Music Industry module will look at developing the skills needed to plan a career in the Music Industry.

Progression
On successful completion of the Foundation Diploma. You will be given the opportunity to progress onto the Extended Diploma in Music Production in September 2023
Prerequisites
5 x GCSE G4-9 including Maths and English.

ADULT EDUCATION SHORT MUSIC COURSES (19YRS+)
Red Tape Central are pleased to offer short music courses to adults aged 19yrs+. If you would like to start from scratch or improve your current knowledge using industry standard technology, RTC could be the place for you. We have arranged 4 courses which provide a pathway of progressions throughout the year.
DAW Workshop
Do you already have Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software and feel you’re missing out on everything it can offer?
Would you like to improve your knowledge in a supportive environment with access to up to date technology and delivered by an Industry professional?
The DAW Workshop is the perfect starting point for you. If this whets your appetite, you can progress onto the DAW Level 2 accredited qualification or try your hand at Studio Recording Skills or Studio Production.
Start Date: 6th September 2022
Course Length: Tuesday evenings. 5.00pm – 9.00pm for 8 weeks.

Recording Skills Level 1
“How on earth do you know what all those controls do?!” Time to enrol yourself on a course to find out!
The flexibility of this course would suit musicians who want a better understanding of recording technology; those who wish to get into the music industry as a sound engineer; and beginners alike.
Red Tape’s flagship “Studio 1” hosts this twenty two week practical evening class. You will get ‘hands-on’ as you learn about microphones, mixing desks, monitoring, multi-tracking, mastering and more to create a professional, broadcast-quality track, using the latest software.
Learn the techniques and processes used in the top studios for recording bands and artists.
No prior knowledge needed.
Start Date: November 2022 (start date TBC)

DAW Level 2
Do you already have some experience in Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) or maybe you just feel ready to go straight for an accredited qualification?
The DAW L2 is a NCFE qualification ideal for those wishing to develop their underpinning knowledge of the processes and principles of music production and develop technical skills in music technology and the recording process.
The qualification will:
• focus on the study of music technology within the arts, media and publishing sector
• offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
• provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills.
No prior knowledge needed but some would be useful.
Start Date: May 2023 (start date TBC)
Course Length: Monday 9.00am – 4.00pm and Tuesday 1.00pm – 4.00pm for 11 weeks.

Studio Production
Ever wondered why and how Britney Spears sounds so much better on DVD than live? Sign up and you too can learn how to create a musical work of art using industry standard equipment.
Learn about: production philosophy, production as reproduction and the difference between analogue and digital.
Enjoy practical sessions exploring standard miking and mixing techniques: Motown, the 60’s and more. Practice your production skills to create: Slower tempos, Caribbean style rhythms and the rest!
