Professor Christina Beatty BSc (Hons), Mphil | Professor of Applied Economic Geography | Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research | Sheffield Hallam University
Back by popular demand! Professor Beatty was a speaker at last year’s Summit, and we are delighted to welcome her back as a Panellist to offer her insights and perceptions at this year’s event. Professor Beatty has over 25 years of experience in undertaking applied policy and evidenced based research. During that time, she has managed many national research and evaluation projects utilising large scale data intensive and mixed method approaches to understand the spatial impacts of policy initiatives. She is especially interested in the intersection of welfare reform, labour market policy, housing policy and regeneration policy, and how this relates to the underpinning regional and local economic geography of Britain. Her work often highlights the uneven impact of policy decisions and how this can result in unintended consequences in different types of places across Britain.
Jim Carley FIEP | Founder and Managing Director | Carley Consult Ltd
Jim is the Managing Director and founder of Carley Consult. From the business opening in 2007, he has been the businesses lead trainer for bid writing and has helped to upskill hundreds of practitioners through their open and in-house courses.
Jim has over 20 years of experience in bid writing and bid management. He is a recognised expert in employability, justice and vocational skills, and has contributed to multiple winning tenders for contracts with DWP, The Ministry of Justice, and The Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) amongst others. His experience includes leading bid assignments internationally, in the likes of Australia, Ireland, and Saudi Arabia. Jim is a Board Member of Doncaster Chamber and Interim Chair of EXPECT Youth, a Doncaster based youth charity. He was the Federation of Small Business (FSB) representative on the Nottinghamshire City & County Employment & Skills Board (2011-14) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Employability Professionals (IEP).
