Overview

An exciting vacancy has arisen within the Employment and Skills team for a Careers Adviser to promote and support young people to gain apprenticeships. The Employment and Skills team branded Opportunity Sheffield provides support to individuals to develop their skills and to gain, maintain and progress in employment.

Apprenticeships have proven to be an excellent route for people to move up the career ladder with 85% staying in employment when they complete their apprenticeship and an ability to gain qualifications to degree level without having to get a loan. However too many parents, young people and teachers still don’t know enough about this option to give it serious consideration. This post, funded by the Apprenticeships, Skills and Knowledge (ASK) programme works with schools, students and their parents across Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham. The role is to provide information about apprenticeships, traineeships and T Levels to groups of students through assemblies and group sessions, as well as providing one to one support for applications and CV writing. The post holder is also responsible for helping to organise our annual Apprenticeships: Be Inspired event. We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic about apprenticeships, has a good understanding of the options for young people at the end of Year 11 and can be supportive to young people who are considering their next steps. For further information on the role contact Laura Hayfield on laura.hayfield@sheffield.gov.uk or 07989152877
