Roundup of recent DWP announcements
Just over a week left to claim Pension Credit and qualify for extra £324
The run up to Christmas is a busy time, but one thing to make sure is on people’s list over the coming week is to find out whether they or their loved ones are eligible for Pension Credit. By claiming before 18 December pensioners could be entitled to an extra £324 Cost of Living Payment.
The average Pension Credit award is worth over £3,500 a year as well as access to a wide range of other benefits – such as help with housing costs, council tax or heating bills – in addition to the extra Cost of Living Payments.
Pension Credit is designed to help people over State Pension age and on a low income with daily living costs, though you do not need to be in receipt of State Pension to receive it.
The Pension Credit calculator can help pensioners see if they are eligible and get an estimate of what they may receive. Claims can be made online, over the phone (0800 99 1234 – Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm) or by printing out and filling in a paper application form.
Social media assets, flyers and posters highlighting the 18 December deadline are available to download and share on your social media channels and with your own audiences.
Department for Work and Pensions (including Jobcentre Plus) arrangements over the festive period
Our office opening hours are different over Christmas and New Year.
To make sure people receive their payments on a day when our offices are open, arrangements have been made to make some payments early.
