Opportunity Sheffield: Rail Track Maintenance training starts 18 June

Opportunity Sheffield is recruiting for the next Rail Track Maintenance course, starting on Wednesday 18 June 2025.

The course, in collaboration with YFL Training, has been designed to prepare learners to work in the rail sector upon completion. It will cover:

  • Personal track safety
  • DC conductor rails
  • overhead lines
  • track induction
  • manual Handling
  • medical information, including drugs and alcohol testing
  • fire awareness
  • health and safety & risk management.

The course will include support with employability skills including preparing a CV and preparing for interviews, plus a two-week placement and guaranteed interviews with employers.

Course Details

Registration session: Monday 9 June 2025, 10am at Moorfoot Learning and Development Centre, Sheffield, S1 4PL

This session MUST be attended for participant to attend the start date of the course.

Start date: Wednesday 18 June 2025

Duration: Three and a half weeks, Monday to Friday, 9am – 4pm

Course location:  YFL Rail Engineering Training Centre, Tinsley Park Road, Sheffield, S9 5DL

Eligibility Criteria

You can refer a participant if they:

  • Are 16 years old and above
  • live in South Yorkshire
  • are currently unemployed and not in full-time education
  • have the right to work in the UK.

To complete registration, they must provide:

  • National Insurance Number
  • proof of ID (Passport, Birth Certificate, or Biometric Residence Permit)
  • universal Credit login or proof of right to work.
