Ignition Training Centre courses aim to offer skills, accredited qualifications, confidence, something for your CV and a potential reference.
Practical lessons take place in the motor vehicle workshops with a fully qualified Mechanic Tutor who will support you to develop the skills needed to pass the assessments. You will learn about safety in the workshop, tools and specialist equipment, and how to carry out basic checks and repairs on the vehicles.
The opportunity to acquire more in-depth learning will be dependent on the level of interest and
ability shown by the learner. Theory lessons will cover the required standards of understanding.
These are classroom based, giving you the opportunity to take notes to enhance your studies and
evidence your knowledge.
Career opportunities include working in motor vehicle repair centres or fast fit outlets as a repair
technician or breaker. However, following success in this course you should have plenty of
transferrable skills to apply for a range of jobs.
There are no formal entry requirements needed to join, other than being aged 18+, unemployed and looking for work.
However, a level of commitment is expected from those accessing Ignition’s education as places
are limited and free of charge. Learners will be expected to complete the programme unless they find employment.
All applicants should demonstrate a willingness and desire to participate on a motor vehicle
Although the course is paid for, students may be required to bring their own PPE/appropriate
work wear such as steel toe capped boots and overalls or old clothes.
Knowledge is assessed using online tests, practical assessments and learning materials. Practical
assessments will be carried out in the motor vehicle workshops following training and practice in the required competencies. Students will be required (with assistance) to build a portfolio of their work.
