This week’s key messages:
- Official statistics show that the ‘green economy’ is booming, growing faster than other sectors last year. Investment into the sector has really ramped up over recent decades, and South Yorkshire is one such ‘hotspot’ of activity.
- A recent trial of the four-day working week has been received as successful. The vast majority of firms taking part have become convinced of the virtues of a three-day weekend. Proponents remain a minority, but a significant one.
- Public sector pay has risen much more slowly than private sector pay over the past year of historically high price inflation. The arguments for constraining public sector pay packets to avoid a ‘wage-price spiral’ have been scrutinised in recent LSE analysis.
