The Imagining Social Rights: Global & Local Experiences of Work exhibition launch takes place on 7 November 2026 at Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield as part of the Being Human Festival.
How do we imagine social rights? What does this mean, and how does it relate to work?
Explore these vital questions through live folk music from around the world and live theatrical performances of poems and autobiographies related to the history of work. The event also features make-your-own exhibition workshops where young people can use objects and creative materials (crafting, drawing, painting) to curate their own version of a history of workers’ rights.
The first day of the event also marks the launch of a new virtual exhibition on the global history of social rights. The exhibition was created together with schools and young people’s organisations in the UK, Germany and Tanzania. The launch event will feature a talk sponsored by Sheffield Council, and a discussion with The University of Sheffield’s Glo Soc about social rights globally, past and present, and how they relate to work.
