A new Walking for Purpose group is set to begin in the New Year based at SOAR Works, designed to help people get some exercise and find out about training and employment opportunities.
Walking for Purpose is a free walking and employability project for residents of Sheffield who are seeking to improve their employment prospects. The programme includes workshops that range from confidence building and self-belief, to hearing about training and volunteering opportunities, plus much more.
The programme will be starting on Tuesday 15th January 2019 from 11.30am and will run for up to 10 weeks. The sessions are aimed to improve both your physical and mental health and are led by fully trained staff and will be tailored to the needs of the group.
SOAR will work alongside Sheffield City Council employees to deliver a project that suits the needs of local people and provide a fun and enjoyable environment, refreshments will be provided and parents with young children are more than welcome.
Tom Hughes, Project Manager for the Walking for Purpose Project, said: “We are really looking forward to working with SOAR and in in the local area with local residents to deliver a project that encourages people to get out and move more and support individuals to improve their health and employability skills.”
The last block of walks were run from the Firvale Centre and Sorby House in Burngreave were hugely successful with over a hundred new attendees on the walks.
For some of the participants it was a real eye-opener, as they not only got to see parts of their local community that they had not visited before but got to see and experience other parts of Sheffield which they would have never thought to have visited by themselves.
