DWP: Touchbase – 4 December 2020

Roundup of recent DWP announcements

Updated guidance on workplace inclusion and coronavirus

A revised version of the Disability Confident / CIPD guide for line managers on disability employment has been published. The guide has been updated to reflect the changes in the world of work since the coronavirus outbreak.

Disabled people have undoubtedly faced difficulties during the pandemic. However, the changes many employers have made to their ways of working present some real opportunities to adapt to the needs of disabled workers in future.

The guide includes new advice and links to help employers, whether they are making adjustments or managing performance, recruiting new staff or considering redundancies.

Jobcentre guidance on COVID-19 Local Restriction Tiers

From 3 December 2020 in England, updated jobcentre guidance will apply to customers, and will ensure essential support is provided while keeping colleagues and customers safe.

Jobcentres will remain open, as they have throughout the pandemic, to provide essential services to those we cannot help remotely.

Guidance for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland can also be found by using the link above.

Jobcentre Plus arrangements over the festive period

Jobcentre Plus opening hours are different over Christmas and New Year.

To make sure people receive their payments on a day when Jobcentre Plus offices are open, arrangements have been made to make some payments early.

UK points-based immigration system

From 1 January 2021, free movement will end and the UK will introduce a points-based immigration system.

The new system will treat EU and non-EU citizens equally. Anyone coming to the UK to work, excluding Irish citizens, will need to apply for permission in advance.
