Volunteer Admin Mentors Needed

Are you a professional with strong office, admin and IT skills, looking for a flexible way to make a meaningful difference?

Voluntary Action Sheffield is seeking Volunteer Mentors to support its Volunteer to Career pathway. It is an inclusive programme funded by Pathways to Work. The programme helps people remove barriers to employment, to build skills and confidence, and to progress into work through structured volunteering.

Whether you’re working part-time, taking a career break, or using employer-supported volunteering time, this is an opportunity to support others into employment while developing your own mentoring and leadership experience.

As a Mentor, you’ll play a key role in guiding a team of volunteers as they develop practical office administration skills. You’ll help create a supportive, inclusive environment where individuals can learn at their own pace and progress towards fulfilling employment.

What you’ll do:

  • Train, mentor, and coordinate volunteers completing admin tasks
  • Support inductions and ongoing skills development
  • Encourage problem-solving using shared resources and templates
  • Assign tasks based on ability and progression plans, and provide hands-on support when needed
  • Contribute to a positive, welcoming team culture

What you’ll bring:

  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) and confidence handling emails/phone enquiries
  • A supportive, coaching approach and ability to build confidence in others
  • Reliability and the ability to commit to a regular weekly session
  • Willingness to be adaptable in a dynamic, people-focused environment

This role is both rewarding and realistic – volunteers in your team may face complex challenges that affect their consistency, so flexibility and empathy are essential. In return, you’ll see tangible outcomes as people grow in confidence and develop workplace skills.

If you’re looking to use your professional skills to create social impact and support inclusive pathways into work, and you can spare 3-4 hours a week then we’d love to hear from you.
