This week’s key messages
- Labour market data is not showing any signs of major shifts with unemployment slightly below pre-pandemic levels. There is some positive labour market data around job recovery, particularly in Sheffield.
- The labour market remains tight with roughly one unemployed person (1.03) for each vacancy. There has been wage growth but the trend has been for the top earners to see their wages increase more than other groups.
- The current labour market conditions are driving a cultural change which is being termed “The Great Redirection” as employees explore new jobs or balances in their lives.
