A new programme has launched in South Yorkshire aimed at supporting young people with their wellbeing and helping them get on track with their careers.
Feel Well, Work Well will be delivered by local charitable organisations Sheffield Futures (Sheffield), Rotherham United Community Sports Trust (Rotherham United) and Big Ambitions (Barnsley and Doncaster).
Specialist support will be provided by Barnsley and Rotherham Mind, The Princes Trust and The Source Academy, ensuring the partnership delivers 1-1 support for 16–24-year-olds to secure further training or employment.
The programme is part-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and brings £1.6 million of
investment until December 2023.
Karen Challis, Chief Executive Officer at Sheffield Futures, said:
“The pandemic has had a huge impact on mental health and wellbeing; many young people have missed out on their education and lost opportunities to progress into work, leading to isolation, anxiety and decreased confidence and self-esteem.
“Feel Well, Work Well recognises that without good mental health it is incredibly challenging to begin or return to a journey into learning, training or work, and that a swift response can help prevent poor wellbeing escalating into complex, and often lasting mental health needs. Every young person who joins the programme will have access to trained wellbeing practitioners at an early stage and develop a plan of support and action together.
Any young person living in South Yorkshire, aged 16-24 who is not currently in education, employment or training, and who feels they need extra help with their wellbeing, can apply for support from Feel Well, Work Well. The programme is able to help with wellbeing challenges, such as low mood and anxiety, the only requirement is that young people are able to engage with their coach and are ready to explore their career prospects.
